Paula (Munweis) Ben Gurion

Paula Munweis Ben Gurion (1892-1968), a Russian-American, met David Ben Gurion on his first trip to the United States. They married in 1917. He later said of her, “she was not a Zionist, she had very little Jewish feeling, she was an anarchist. She had no interest in Israel.” She thought America was a better place to live and her anarchism made her reflexively against Zionism and the creation of a Jewish state. But David convinced her to move there with him, and she remained his closest confidant and advisor for the rest of her life.
