Warrior God — military hero and politician
archaeologist
Yigael Yadin (1917-1984) was an Israeli military leader, politician, and, most famously, renowned archaeologist. A hero of the War of Independence, he went on to become the army’s second Chief of Staff. He left military service in his mid-thirties to focus on archaeology. He was responsible for some of the most important historical finds, research, and excavations in Israel, including Masada, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Gezer, Megiddo, and the Bar Kochba Letters. In the 1970s he entered politics and served as the Deputy Prime Minister to Menachem Begin.
