Israel Museum & Shrine of the book

Jerusalem, 1965

The Israel Museum, founded in 1965, is Israel’s foremost cultural institution, housing treasures both ancient and modern. Located on its campus is the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Aleppo Codex. The Museum contains the most extensive collection of biblical and Holy Land archaeology in the world, making clear the far and deep reach of Jewish art and life across the centuries. David Ben Gurion said the museum befits, “an ancient people, dedicated to the values of the spirit throughout its tortured history and now reviving its independence in its ancient land.”
