Simcha Blass
inventor of drip irrigation
Simcha Blass (1897-1982), an Israeli water engineer determined to bring his skills to the Zionist cause in Palestine, invented modern drip irrigation technology. His technology, developed with his son, Yeshayahu, was exported around the world, impacting the lives of hundreds of millions of people as part of the mid-century Green Revolution. Locally, his water technology enabled Israel to expand its arable agricultural land, allowing the Negev Desert to be populated, developed, and utilized for Israel’s economy.
