Ezer Weizmann (1924-2005) was a distinguished combat pilot, military leader, politician, and the seventh President of Israel from 1993-2000. He led the first Israeli Air Force mission against an Egyptian position during the War of Independence. He rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Commander of the IAF from 1958-1966. He served in a variety of political positions, including Minister of Defense under Prime Minister Menachem Begin. He was a “dove,” promoting peace with the Arabs, especially with Egypt and through the Palestinian peace process. He was elected President of Israel in 1993.
