Emile Zola (1840-1902), the famous French writer, took up the cause of Alfred Dreyfus and forcefully denounced the antisemitism around his trial. His famous essay entitled “J’accuse!” opened up the debate around Dreyfus, antisemitism, and the nature of French society.
