Conductor

Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957) was a world-famous Italian conductor who arrived in Palestine in 1936 to conduct the Palestine Symphony ORchestra. Made up of Jewish refugees from Europe, Toscanini intended to call attention to his opposition to European fascism. He stayed for a month, led nine concerts of the Palestine Symphony Orchestra, and traveled throughout the region to show solidarity with the Jews.
